January 05, 2021
Washington, D.C. — As 2021 gets underway, the Payments Alliance[1] welcomes the 117th Congress and the incoming Biden Administration. The Payments Alliance looks forward to working with Congress and the new Administration, on a bipartisan basis, to reach our shared goals of expanding access to financial services and responding to the pandemic by helping Americans recovering from the COVID-19 crisis.
The Payments Alliance which includes the Innovative Payments Association (IPA), the American Transaction and Processing Coalition (ATPC), and the Money Services Business Association (MSBA), and is a forum established at a critical time for the payments community. This new collaboration will serve as a guidepost for the payments industry throughout 2021, as the country moves quickly to mitigate, and ultimately defeat, the COVID-19 virus.
According to ATPC Executive Director, H. West Richards, now is the right time for different industry groups to work together. “Not since the Financial Crisis of 2008 has our industry been faced with as many challenges across the political and regulatory sphere as we face today. This is why it is so important for there to be increased connectivity between trade associations operating in the ecosystem.”
“The COVID-19 pandemic has been an unprecedented disruptor for all American and every industry, and the Payments Alliance is emerging to aid in shifting our industry’s focus to expanding financial access for all Americans,” said IPA President and CEO Brian Tate. We look forward to engaging and collaborating with stakeholders, tapping into insights and resources from across the industry, in order to inform policy at all levels of government and better serve consumers.”
